Bade Walden - Comic Noir Graphic Novel

Bade Walden is a Comic Noir Graphic Novel set in the 1940s that I wrote, designed and illustrated, themed around the world of organized crime. The protagonist is a former associate of a major crime family in the city, whose wife suddenly goes missing. The story takes us through his journey trying to find out what happened and if he will ever see her again.

This is my favourite project so far, because it involved me combining the use of traditional analogue design, such mapping out the framework for each panel by hand on paper with a pencil, then inking them in pen, with digital processing methods, such as colourising the front cover and formatting the pages in an optimal way for mass printing.

Tools used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign

A horror publication I wrote, designed and illustrated, outlining a typical experience one may have when in a state of sleep paralysis. The theme of this publication was heavily based on the human condition and the five senses, specifically what may be picked up by each of these senses during such a horrific experience.

This project combined analogue design methods, like drawing out the illustrations on paper with pencil, and then using Photoshop later to distort the images to give a more horrifying look to each page, and InDesign to format the pages for print.

After creating my Bade Walden Graphic Novel, I translated the unique, 2D universe I created, to an interactive 3D world using Blender. Scene by scene, using the gritty, dark and monochrome design in the graphic novel and turning it to 3D, with the same lighting theory and pop out colours used.

ABOUT ME:

Ionel. C

Not only is the art great, but the customer service is unlike anything I am used to. Sam was very patient and  willing to spend several hours discussing the request with me beforehand about my specific needs and what would/wouldn't work for the art.

Danyal. K

No shortcuts were taken in the drawings they did for me. Thanks a bunch!

Kolby Ray. O

I had a hard time finding someone who was up for the complicated and adult nature of my project, but he was willing to produce exactly what I needed done and I can tell he put a lot of care in to the quality and the end results really show it.  I look forward to working with you again!

album: OLD YATSON'S UNDERWORLD

When creating my Bade Walden comic, I went about it as though it were a movie. In my mind, each character in the still frame 2D panels had a unique voice that only I could hear. A distinct movement pattern only I could see. So naturally, when reading through my pages, I would also hear a soundtrack playing in the background of each scene. I turned what I heard into an album I wrote, produced and engineered, put together using the help of different vocalists and instrumentalists.

Paragraph

The release of Old Yatson's Underworld was met with such good feedback regarding the opinions of listeners, as well as the experiences of the musicians involved, that it prompted me to make a sequel, this time implementing my new studio equipment and knowledge I have gained through my training at SNAP Studios, releasing later this year.

about sami : Audio engineer and music producer

A London-based audio engineer, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist with a passion for crafting authentic, fully realised sound.
Formally trained at SNAP Studios & Sound Academy, I've built a solid technical foundation across the full production pipeline — from recording and microphone technique through to mixing and mastering. That training, combined with my day-to-day immersion in the professional music world at the Royal Academy of Music, has sharpened both my ear and my understanding of what great audio demands.

As an artist, I write, perform, and produce my own music under the name SAMI, with a debut album independently released across all major streaming platforms. I'm a vocalist, guitarist, and pianist — and those performance roots directly inform how I work with other artists, giving me an instinct for what a musician needs from a recording environment.
Beyond my own projects, I've worked behind the scenes for other artists across recording, mixing, and production — bringing the same attention to detail and creative investment to their music as I do to my own.
Whether I'm behind the glass or behind an instrument, my goal is always the same: to serve the song.
